Step By Step - the Infrastructure Basics

I-R-S Home | Get Started | PLR Pro - the Process | Saving on Clickbank | Site Map | Who Am I? | Contact Me | Join My List | Keywords

This is a step-by-step to building the infrastructure for your Internet Marketing campaigns.

You will need:

  1. Your Own Domain Name
  2. At least 2 different email boxes, one personal, one for business.
  3. A place to host your website and blog.
  4. An Autoresponder.
  5. Membership in several List Builders. To build traffic.
  6. Affiliate memberships in quality, reputable products.
  7. How important is Cloaking? How to do it!
  8. Learn, learn, learn.

Your Own Domain Name

One of the best places to get a domain name, cheap, is GoDaddy.Com. Make up an available domain name that means something to you. It could

be your own name (for example, johnqpublic.com), or something to do with your proposed business (for example, thisismybusiness.com). Also, you can use hyphens between the words, to make it more readable (such as this-is-my-business.com). It's unsure whether the search engines like this or not. This site uses hyphens, and I've achieved a #1 ranking in Google, so this might be a moot point.

Go ahead and use try names both ways to check availability and presence (how it looks) then you can make a valid decision. Whatever you decide, it will be a good one. The site www.domaindirect.com allows you to put in a hyphenated name, then displays both versions (with and without hyphens) and their availability,

If you'd like one of the new .WS TLD's (top level domains) then I suggest 3 places:

HostGator.Com

Kiosk.WS

Global Domains International

But I really think you need a .COM as your TLD, mainly because that's what all commerce sites use, and it's what people are really used to seeing.

And that's where GoDaddy.Com comes in. Settle on your domain name, go to GoDaddy, enter that name, and set about registering that name. I recommend registering for as many years as your budget will allow (5 years is good) because the search engines really like sites that plan on being around for awhile, especially Google.

Email Names

OK - you've got that domain name. Now you'll need a minimum of 2 email accounts using your new domain. GoDaddy usually comes with at least one email address included in your new name. I suggest you buy a second so you can separate personal from business. I'd even suggest a third, as a kind of throw-away, because I envision you signing up for various website offers, opt-in offers, etc. That's the email address you'd use for stuff like that. The other business address is the one you use for those membership sites you are serious about maintaining a relation with. The personal one you'd use for family and friends only so you're not inundated and bombarded and having to separate emails. You'll start getting a lot of SPAM, especially on the throw away account.

If you decide to stick with GoDaddy, that's cool. But I'd suggest getting an account with Kiosk as your Hosting Account. They have CPanel support and a LOT of tools for website managers and internet marketers. GoDaddy doesn't. Once you have a Kiosk account, you can create almost unlimited email accounts

HOSTING

As I mentioned above, if you're going to build a business website, promoting your own or OP products, you'll need somewhere to host your website. I've provided a veritable plethora of suggestion at one of my sites: Web Hosting - The Basics. But my favorites are:

HostGator.Com

Kiosk.WS

Third Sphere Hosting

But if you need some additional information, James Grandstaff has created a video to explain why HE thinks Kiosk is the greatest. You can view his video here:

http://askjamespodcast.com/free/videos/dlsconfirm/kiosk1.html

You're going to want to transfer the domain site to whomever you decide to host with. If you stay at GoDaddy, then you're already set. But if you decide on another host, then follow their transfer instructions very carefully. It's usually pretty simple and involves updating the DNS pointers in your GoDaddy domain account.

What you'll set up first will be a lead capture page. That's where you start collecting your own opt-in names and email addresses. And for that, you'll need an autoresponder, but more on that later. (Kiosk comes with one). But again, more on that later because we have some more work to do.

Autoresponders

What is an autoresponder? And why is it important? This is going to be very important as we "go on down the path" towards getting set up. I've got those answers and review of some of the best out there right now at my Autoresponder Q&A and Review page. Enough said here, just go check it out. But remember, if you go with Kiosk as your host, it includes an autoresponder. That alone will save you some bucks.

List Builders

These are the guys that can generate traffic for you. Almost all are free to join, and I suggest you join several so you can use them to build your own lists. Again, I've already listed my favs at this site: List Builder Recommendations. And here's how best to use them (if you don't upgrade to a paid status):

1. Join at least two (three is better).

2. Once you join a list, you'll start receiving promotional emails. Each time you read one, you will accumulate points. These points are in turn used to help you email your own promotions, usually 1 email per point.

3. When you get enough points, start promoting one of them from another mailer. For example, if you build up credits with List Joe, then use List Joe to send out a promotional email touting membership in ListDotCom.Com, for example. Then, as your ListDotCom.Com list builds, you can start using it to promote your List Joe account. Or use a third to promote the other 2. This takes awhile, but it does help you build your membership list.

4. Just keep working this method, building your lists.

5. Or take a shortcut and upgrade to a paid account. The best deals are found in the OTO (One Time Offer) you'll receive when you first sign up. It's usually a one time offer to join at a fixed one-time price instead of a monthly fee. If you decide to keep the free account, then try and upgrade later, you'll be hit with a monthly fee because the OTO has been taken off the board. So consult your budget, and if you can afford it, go with the OTO. You'll be glad you did, because your list is built in and you won't have to build your own. You'll be able to mail out a specified number of emails to their overall membership list every x number of days, depending on your level of membership.

Affiliate Memberships

There are so many affiliate programs out there, it's really hard to pick one. But one of these best overall is www.Clickbank.Com. Clickbank is the repository for over 12,000 e-books and software products that publishers use to sell from. It really pays to have a Clickbank account. And it's free. Using Clickbank.Com, you can sell e-books from Clickbank on a wide array of topics using your own affiliate URL, or hoplink (as they are called). And, the normal affiliate commission is around 50 - 75%. Here's an example: http://shagmiser.12monthmil.hop.clickbank.net/. Give it a try and you'll see what I mean.

There is also Commission Junction, a site that is the affiliate manager for a whole raft of companies, mostly retail. Everyone from Sharper Image to Wal*Mart. This is a very extensive affiliate site where you can promote all sorts of online products, from some major retailers.

Amazon.Com is also a great place to be an affiliate of - along with Worldwide Brands (product places that do drop ship).

These are just a few examples, but there are virtually thousands of affiliate possibilities out there. Do your research, look for a niche you like, then see if there's an affiliate possibility. How you get paid for your affiliate sales depends on the affiliate site itself. Most can pay by check, or directly into your PayPal account. That's another thought, it really helps if you have a PayPal account.

Cloaking

Now, most affiliates will "cloak" their affiliate URL to keep others from sniping, or stealing your affiliate link. Here's an article I developed that explains cloaking and how to do it  - view it here.

If you know nothing about HTML, or FTP, then I suggest joining ViralURL, a free smembership site that includes a cloaking capability. I use it a lot.

That's it - a very basic recipe for getting all your puzzle pieces in place. But remember, this is just a start. But it's a good start. Good luck, and may success be with you.
